Speculation over 251 E Charleston New Construction Tenant
As one of the first and few new, ground-up construction buildings in the Arts District of Downtown since the Economic Downturn, there has been curiosity amongst the population in the greater downtown area about its future use. The 251 E Charleston Blvd building's shell was recently completed this summer by Michael Smoody General Contractors, and features a clean modern geometric design, with rear parking.
A quick google search revealed no information about the future plans for the approximate 7,000 SF building, which has retail appeal and looks like it would house a future showroom use. Through discussion with a nearby source, it is revealed that the use is to be for an adult novelty store. There are no signs that say "Coming Soon" or indicators of this future use, that for many in the downtown area, would come off as a controversial use, as the area is striving to become more friendly to live and work in. Some may find the prospect of an adult novelty store coming to their neighborhood as off-putting.
While there are currently other ground-up construction projects getting underway in downtown currently (including a multi-story condominium project just a few hundred feet to the east of the project off of Charleston) Do you believe that an adult novelty store is the best newcomer for an up and coming neighborhood?
